If You Do A Good Deed For The Praise, You’re Doing It For The Wrong Reason

You Don’t Need To Prove You Are A Good Person

I see it far too often on social media, people tooting their own horn and patting themselves on the back for the good deeds they have done.

“I saw a homeless man today so I bought him a sandwich.”

“My sweet daughter sits with the autistic boy at lunch because he has no friends.”

“We donated all of our used clothing to the family who lost everything in a house fire.”

All with pictures of a vulnerable person or even a video of them doing these things.

Well, good for you? What do you want me to say to this? You want people to think you’re so nice don’t you?

Maybe they are hoping this will go viral or something. I don’t know. It rubs me the wrong way.

I don’t think it is “nice” to show how awesome you are being to a vulnerable person. Because it’s what you always should be doing.

You shouldn’t expect praise for doing it. If that’s your motivation, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons.

If Nobody Sees You Do Something “Good” Is It Still “Good”?
