We all have that one band. The one we have listened to since we can remember. I have a few: Rage Against The Machine, Korn, Beastie Boys, and of course TOOL.
And much like all the other Tool fans out there, I couldn’t wait for the new album that was what, 20 years in the making? Well, no, more like 13 but it felt that long!
The 90s are back baby! At least for a bit. I took the liberty of listening to the new album, Fear Inoculum, for you. You’re welcome. I don’t mind taking one for the team in this instance.
Were my expectations met? Uh YEAH! I love it just as much as I like anything from their past albums. Music by TOOL is always my go-to when I am in a mental funk.
I don’t know what it is about the instrumentals and the voice of Maynard James Keenan but it has never let me down. It’s something I can sing along to and get all those feelings out!
In fact, I am having a pretty bad day today and that’s what I’m listening to right now because I know it can turn my mood around.
The power of TOOL’s music calms me. I don’t know why. Sometimes things like that are hard to put into words. It just hits you. It takes you somewhere else. You can close your eyes and think of nothing else.
It’s rock, I love rock, especially 90s rock. However, TOOL has a calmer undertone than most of the rock that I normally listen to. It’s different but in a good way.
You won’t be moshing to it or anything but if you are looking to “chill”, Fear Inoculum, will be an album to have in your collection.
So excuse me while I go finish listening to TOOL to try to get out of my funk.
Because, when all else fails, TOOL is always there for me.
